Targeted support
The Natural Health Swiss Foundation only processes applications that fulfil its purpose and meet its objectives. The foundation supports projects with regular contributions, provides technical support where appropriate and initiates its own projects in co-operation with partners. We currently support the following projects:
The Gambia – Kendeyaa, Mussu Kunda & «Help»

• Homeopathiy
• Natural family planning
• Emergency and reconstruction assistance
These three projects are located in the West African country of The Gambia, the smallest state on the African continent and one of the poorest countries in the world. The country’s infrastructure for health care is inadequate, additional alternatives are in demand and welcome.

Kendeyaa means being healthy and that already describes our vision: We want to have a positive impact on the health of people in need in the short and long term so that they can lead a self-determined life.
A team of homeopaths has been working on setting up, developing and maintaining a homeopathy school since 2008. A total of 30 Gambian graduates were trained and qualified in four three-year full-time training programs. Swiss and Gambian experts have been working together ever since. The National Health Swiss Foundation attaches great importance to working with local project partners to ensure that assistance is provided efficiently, effectively and in accordance with the cultural context.
Our focus is currently on practical work with homeopathic treatments. We run a small clinic in Tanji and offer mobile clinics three to four times a week. 20 to 60 people can be treated there every day. A Gambian doctor trained in western, evidence based medicine complements the availability of healthcare services.
For the last 14 years we have been successfully collaborating with the Gambian artist and local project manager Isha Fofana and her team. Without the team’s trusted leadership, deep knowledge of the culture, and endless compassion for the local people, we could not function successfully.
Mussu Kunda is a project that specifically supports family health. We are convinced that natural family planning is a key to healthy families. Younger women should have access to important knowledge about being women.
In 2017, 13 Gambian women were trained as trainers in an intensive, multi-day workshop. The participants possess a good combination of formal education, life experience and English language skills. Training topics include natural family planning based on the female cycle, sexuality, pregnancy, breastfeeding and hygiene, child care and general life coaching. The trainers are trained to pass on their knowledge to local women who have little schooling. Overall, this has a lasting impact on the lives of women and their families because women are empowered to plan the number of times the give birth, on their own terms.
The group of trainers is led and supervised by Isha Fofana and two other women who are responsible for administration and the course offerings in the villages. They also attend and check the courses and make sure that the participants have understood the content.
Kendeyaa and Mussu Kunda will work even more closely together in the near future. The trainers are already using the homeopathic consultation at the group’s mandatory monthly meetings.

A number of South African homeopaths work at the KNHC, securing the local sustainability of the project. The KNHC aims to improve health, food sovereignty and biodiversity in the region. The KNHC treats more than 10,000 patients every year. An external evaluation has confirmed that the majority of patients feel significantly better after additional homeopathic treatment, which is also reflected in their ability to work or return to school. Homeopathic remedies are used in addition to modern western medicine and have proven to be effective, safe and affordable.
The KNHC is an officially recognized training and internship center that offers excellent learning opportunities for students and practitioners of homeopathy from South Africa and Switzerland. The internships are recognized as part of continuing education in Switzerland. In addition to medical care, the KNHC has other projects such as a sewing project for young women, a project to provide clean water to the community, cultivation of local medicinal plants, psychosocial counseling, training in hygiene, nutrition and physical fitness for patients.
